The Fauré String Trio was founded in the summer of 2003 with the idea of studying the repertoire for the string trio. Within about 2 years, the Fauré String Trio started playing private concerts to perform with the goal of eventually performing formal public concerts.
As a string trio we have the advantage of being able to add guest performers and are able to perform a wide spectrum of chamber music. In our first concert at Old St. Lukes Church, we performed as string trio and invited other musicians to play with us. In that concert we performed the String Trio Op.53 No.1 by Haydn and invited Gastón Etchegoyen, pianist from Chile residing in Michigan, and José Gómez, clarinetist from Colombia residing in Pittsburgh, PA to play the Mozart Piano Quartet in G minor and a Clarinet Quartet , a transcription of which we believe was taken from a violin sonata by Mozart. In our Audio Samples you can hear selections from that live concert. In an earlier concert we included popular music - music from movies, tangos, pop classics and ragtimes (some arranged by us), with the idea of giving to our audience different music that is not often played by chamber groups.
In September 2007, Gaston was back in Pittsburgh to play with us. We performed Mendelssohn's Piano Quartet No 1 in our summer concert at the First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh. Richard Teaster, director of the "Sanctuary Music Series", warmly opened the doors to us and later we were invited to be part of the chamber music series at the Sanctuary. In that concert we played works by Schubert, Beethoven and the Piano Quartet in C Minor by Fauré with pianist Jonathan Gonder.
In March 2008, the Trio was invited to perform at "The Chamber Music Series of Greater Johnstown", the concert took place at the First Presbyterian Church in Johnstown PA, and we played with Jonathan Gonder. In the first half we played solos with the piano, Jon also played a solo piano piece and in the second half we performed the Fauré c minor Piano Quartet. The day before of the concert we gave a master class - it was very nice to share our musical knowledge with such talented students.
Old St. Lukes Church, which we consider our Home, invited us to play a concert to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the naming of Fort Pitt and the first worship service offered from the fort in 1758. We prepared a really fun concert, playing works by Haydn, Mozart and tunes by musicians that have ties with Pittsburgh, such as Como, Mancini, Foster and of course Fred Rogers.
A few months ago, we were contacted by the Italian composer Giorgio Mirto who presented us with his string trio commissioned by the Turin Festival. It is a very interesting work and we are looking forward to performing it. Giorgio has been very nice to us and he will dedicate his second trio to us. It is a great honor!
We hope you like our new web page; it has new pictures, a new look, new audio samples and more. We will keep posting our upcoming concerts and we will have a link where you can find more information and directions to the venues.
